Physical Modeling simulates the properties of acoustic sound sources, such as string, brass or wind instruments. With physical modeling instruments, complex mathematical algorithms are used to generate the sound, but thankfully, you don't have to be a math genius to use them. In this course, synth expert Joe Albano takes a look at this unique synthesis method, and gives an overview of different software and hardware instruments that use it.
Joe starts the course with a brief history lesson on the evolution of Physical Modeling synthesis over the years. You learn how Physical Modeling compares with Sampling, and you discover the upsides and downsides of both methods, as well as the concepts and terminology involved. Joe looks at different physical modeling hardware instruments, like the Yamaha VL-1 and Korg Prophecy hardware synths from the mid-90s, and the Line 6 Variax guitars and the Roland V-Drums. The exploration continues with software synthesizers like Logic's VB3, VEP, Modartt Pianoteq, IK Multimedia's MODO Bass and drums, AAS modelers and more...
Let's get physical... Discover the power of Physical Modeling now with synthesis expert Joe Albano!
