Would be nice to be able to change the font (eg. to a more terminal-like font) Also when text is auto-scrolled, the last 5 lines are off the screen :(

The interface should be updated to show that the top screen is display (and not for input) and the bottom with the paper airplane icon is to send the command to serial. Also, while I was able to tell that I was sending commands since the "bytes received" counter would go up, the output from the serial port would not be displayed in the top box. Lastly, "green" is Open and "black" is Closed. Happy to change my review if there's an update that fixes the issues.
