Dunes of Terror is a board game. 2 sides, the Police Special Forces (Blue Team) and the Terrorist Gangster Criminals (Red Team), fight it out to the death. For many years, peace had reigned in the land. Regrettably, over time, a group of Terrorist Gangster Criminals arose in the land. They committed all manner of crimes including murder, torture, kidnapping and robbery, terrorising the innocent civilians. With a heavy heart, Parliament has voted to approve the use of lethal armed force by the Police Special Forces to eliminate the Terrorist Gangster Criminals. The object of each team is to kill all characters on the other team. You will have numerous weapons with which to kill the enemy characters. You will earn $10 for each enemy character killed, which can be used to buy more weapons and ammunition. Currently, all maps are random maps and the starting positions of all characters are random. Selecting players In the skirmish screen, you can select:

How many humans are playing for each side. How many characters each human controls, for each side. How many computer controlled characters there are, on each side. The names of each human playing. Whether the difficulty of the computer controlled characters is easy, medium or hard.

Turns The turns proceed in a round-robin fashion. The characters controlled by human players proceed first, followed by the computer players. At the start of the turn of each human character, a dialog box will display the index of the character e.g. Police Turn 1, as well as the name of the human player. For computer controlled characters, a notification will appear at the top of the screen indicating the index of the computer controlled character. When it is your turn, the current statistics of the character you are currently controlling will appear, e.g. the health, amount of money, primary weapon, amount of primary ammunition and amount of secondary (pistol) ammunition. A white circle will appear around your character on the map. Actions When it is your turn, click on the Actions button to display the actions you can perform. There are essentially 3 main types of actions you can perform every turn:

Move Attack Buy

You can perform up to 1 of each of these different actions every turn. Move Moving entails rolling a single 6-sided dice. When you click on the Move button, a dice will be rolled. The number on the dice will be the maximum number of steps you can move. The tiles which you are eligible to move to will be demarcated in white. You are only eligible to move onto land tiles, which appear as grass, and you cannot move onto water tiles. The coordinates of the tiles which you can move to will also be displayed. The coordinate system is a zig-zag system with 26 columns and 100 rows, with columns denoted with A - Z and rows numbered from 00 - 99. After clicking on the tile you want to move to, your character will move to that tile. You will then no longer be able to move again in the same turn. You can also cancel your move by clicking the Cancel Move button. If you cancel your move, you will no longer be able to move in the same turn. Attack When you click on the Attack button, you can select which weapon you want to attack with. Some weapons are disabled, usually due to them being out of range or out of ammunition. Depending on the weapon, you will roll a number of dice 1 or more times. After all the dice rolls, you can then select the enemy character you wish to attack. The tiles of these enemy characters will be highlighted in red. The specifics of the weapons will be described below. Your character will then deal a fixed amount of damage to the health of the enemy character depending on the dice rolls. All characters start at 100% health. After that, you will no longer be able to attack again in the same turn. You can also cancel your attack by clicking the Cancel Attack button. If you cancel your attack, you will no longer be able to attack in the same turn. If the health of the enemy character has been reduced to 0%, you have killed the enemy character. You will then be rewarded with $10. If all enemy characters have been killed, your team would have won the game. Buy You will be paid $5 at the beginning of every turn. There are 3 things you can buy: Primary Weapons Primary Ammunition Secondary Ammunition Click on the Buy button, and then the corresponding button to buy a primary weapon, primary ammunition or secondary ammunition. If you are unable to buy something you want, this is usually because you have insufficient funds. If you buy a primary weapon, all current primary ammunition you have will be discarded. Your new primary weapon will come with a single clip of primary ammunition. The number of bullets in the clip depends on the weapon. There is a maximum number of bullets you can hold for each primary weapon as well as the secondary weapon, which is the pistol. If buying a single clip of primary or secondary ammunition causes you to exceed that maximum number, you will lose the excess ammunition above that maximum number and you will still pay the same price for that clip of ammunition. Weapons Range of weapons is calculated by counting the minimum number of steps it takes to go from 1 tile to another tile, ignoring whether the tiles are land or water and ignoring whether the steps are diagonal. Knife The knife is the only melee weapon in the game. All characters start with a knife. Damage: You will roll the dice once. The damage is the same as the number rolled. Range: 1 tile, i.e. you have to be immediately adjacent to the enemy character. Clip size, clip price and maximum ammunition: Not applicable as the knife uses no ammunition. Pistol The pistol is the only secondary weapon in the game. Apart from the knife, all characters also start with a pistol and 1 clip (6 bullets) of secondary ammunition. Damage: You will roll the dice once. The damage is twice the number rolled. Range: 2 tiles Clip size: 6 bullets Clip price: $3 Maximum ammunition: 12 bullets Shotgun The shotgun is a primary weapon that does more damage at close range and less damage when you fire from farther away. It has a slightly longer range than the pistol. Damage: You will roll the dice once. The damage is the number rolled multiplied by: 3 if the enemy is 1 tile away, 2 if the enemy is 2 tiles away and 1 if the enemy is 3 tiles away. Weapon price: $10 Range: 3 tiles Clip size: 8 bullets Clip price: $5 Maximum ammunition: 16 bullets Submachine Gun The submachine gun is a primary weapon that fires up to 2 rounds of ammunition at once, each of which does the same damage as pistol ammunition. It has the same range as the shotgun. Weapon price: $15 Damage: You will roll 2 dice at once if you currently have more than 1 bullet. If you have only 1 bullet, you will roll only 1 dice. The damage is the total of all dice rolled, multiplied by 2. Range: 3 tiles Clip size: 10 bullets Clip price: $5 Maximum ammunition: 20 bullets Assault Rifle The assault rifle is a primary weapon that fires up to 3 rounds of ammunition at once, each of which does more damage than submachine gun or pistol ammunition. It can also fire farther and hold more primary ammunition. Weapon price: $20 Damage: You will roll up to 3 dice at once if you have at least 3 bullets, otherwise, you will roll the same number of dice as the number of bullets you have remaining. The damage is the total of all dice rolled, multiplied by 3. Range: 4 tiles Clip size: 15 bullets Clip price: $10 Maximum ammunition: 30 bullets Sniper Rifle The sniper rifle is a very risky weapon to use. You could either miss entirely, or deal a lot of damage to the enemy character, potentially killing the enemy with 1 shot if s/he was not in great health to begin with. It also has the longest range in the game. Weapon price: $25 Damage: You will roll the dice once. If you roll a 1, 2 or 3, you have missed your shot and will deal no damage. If you roll a 4, you will deal 25% damage. If you roll a 5, you will deal 50% damage. If you roll a 6, you will deal 75% damage. Range: 5 tiles Clip size: 5 bullets Clip price: $15 Maximum ammunition: 10 bullets Machine Gun The machine gun is a very powerful weapon that sprays up to 5 bullets. However, it is highly inaccurate which results in the bullets potentially missing. It has the same range as the shotgun and submachine gun. Weapon price: $30 Damage: You will first roll 5 dice at once if you have at least 5 bullets, otherwise, you will roll the same number of dice as the number of bullets you have remaining. Out of these dice, any dice with a 3 or less means that the bullet has missed. For your 2nd dice roll, you will roll the same number of dice as the number of dice which were 4 or more in the 1st dice roll. The damage is the total of all dice in the 2nd roll, multiplied by 3. For example, let's say you have 5 bullets left. You roll 3, 3, 4, 4, 4 in the 1st roll. That means 2 bullets missed and 3 bullets hit. You then roll 3 dice for the 2nd roll. You roll 3, 3, 3 and the total of these 3 dice is 9. The total damage dealt will then be 27. Range: 3 tiles Clip size: 20 bullets Clip price: $10 Maximum ammunition: 60 bullets
