DrumStar MIDI is a standalone application that is also a Virtual MIDI Instrument. DrumStar MIDI is designed for 8 inch and 12 inch tablet computers and touchscreen desktops using Windows 11 or Windows 10 operating systems.
DrumStar MIDI works in conjunction with two programs that allow MIDI transmission over a virtual MIDI Ethernet port to your DAW (Digital Audio Workstation).
Only one program is needed to create the virtual MIDI Ethernet port. The two usable programs are:
IPMIDI over Ethernet available at http://www.nerds.de/en/ipmidi.html RTP MIDI available at http://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/rtpmidi.html
Common options are: the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth for generic MIDI playback (analog output and practice) and the virtual MIDI Ethernet port(s) for transmission over the Ethernet to the DAW for recording. The selected instrument in the DAW will generate the audible sounds if the virtual Ethernet MIDI port is selected.
Most modern DAWs will recognize the MIDI Ethernet port and thus will accept MIDI input from the DrumStar MIDI virtual instrument. Notes and drumbeats can be entered into the DAW, and then quantized if needed, and also humanized if desired. This allows a musician a virtual portable playable drumkit to enter and save MIDI notes into the DAW with subsequent editing and shaping using all the functionality of your particular DAW.
