If you are a shift worker or a manager of shift workers, you need Working Shifts! Do you work as a nurse, doctor, in a restaurant, in transport, police, manufacturing anywhere where you work on a roster shift system? Working Shifts lets you quickly record your shift working rosters in a calendar on your Windows 8 tablet or desktop. You can use touch or a mouse. You first create your rosters automatically following a pattern – weekly, two weeks etc., then you can make up a collection of the types of shift that you work, say AM, PM, NIGHT and also ANNUAL LEAVE or SICK LEAVE, choosing from the images provided, then add them to the rosters on your calendar. You can use the share charm to email a picture of the calendar with its shifts to your friends and family so they always know when you are working. You can print out the picture and put it on your fridge door! But wait, there's a lot more! Did you ever have trouble checking your pay? Well, you can put your pay periods on the calendar and set up your pay information. Then Working Shifts will calculate your expected pay, taking into account all your bonuses for nights, weekends and public holidays. It will generate a report for any pay period explaining exactly how your pay was calculated. You can share the report too by email. What about if you're a manager with the job of making up rosters for all your shift workers? No problem, you can use Working Shifts to develop a roster for each worker and save them as separate files. You can then use the share charm to email the shift data (not just the image) to each worker who can click on it to load it into his or her own installed copy of Working Shifts. Your workers can even make changes and send the roster back to you. Sometimes as a shift worker, you need to add a note to a particular day, say "In Charge" or "Meet with boss". You can do that too and on the calendar you'll se a little note symbol to remind you. Finally, suppose you install more than one copy of Working shifts, perhaps on your home computer and your tablet. If you do this and log in on each with the same Microsoft account, then roaming data will make sure all your changes will be synchronized across your installations, not immediately, but as soon as the network permits. Last of all, I know you will want Working Shifts on your Windows 8 phone as well! Just be a little patient - it's coming.
