Without a canvas, a graphic designer's job becomes more difficult. Most top design projects, though, have significant barriers to entry. If you want to work your way up, Scribus is a great place to start. It works with high-end graphic design programs like Adobe InDesign.
It takes a while to actually start using Scribus. Not only is it a relatively large file to download and install, but the program takes some exploration to figure out. Because of the sheer number of features you get, most of them are forgivable. Plus, if you've ever used InDesign, you won't feel too lost with Scribus. It almost completely mimics the layout of InDesign. There's no toolbar like in most programs, but you can create almost any type of graphics, text, and boxes for a clean layout. The color selection isn't as robust as you might expect, but you can mix colors to create the look you need. The program has a simple PDF creator that makes it easy to create printable worksheets or layouts.
Products may rely on non-integrated software: Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable, scriptplugin.dll to provide main functionality.
