The Physical Therapy Exercises app is a special purpose text-to-speech and speech recognition computer program for aiding in the application of rehabilitation exercises.
I wrote this program because I experienced the closure of the neck spinal column that caused me to be unable to walk. Following surgery, I entered a rehabilitation facility where physical therapists aided in my recovery. The recovery required me to perform various balance improvement and muscle strengthening exercises. I wrote this program to assist me in performing the prescribed exercise routines. After using the program for three months and with the aid of a cane, I can now walk a mile and more around the neighborhood. Therefore, I am making this program available, free of charge, in the event, it might aid others.
Using Microsoft text-to-speech voices, the program reads and speaks the text of exercise files.
The exercises provided with this program are slightly more extensive than those employed in the rehab-facility and may not be applicable to your needs. However, the exercises are in text-files that you can edit to customize to your needs. Also, the program contains an exercise generator to assist in the creation of custom exercises.
The program can optionally use limited speech recognition for stopping, resuming, and repeating the exercises.
