Gouache painter Gouache painter is a tool for gouache painters using a photograph as a starting point. It is based on the Munsell color system. Gouache painter is made for desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones. Gouache painter will tell you which color to use, how to mix them and where to use them in the image. You can choose between Design from Winsor & Newton, or gouache from Maimeri. The mixed color is made from a palette with 20, 16 or 7 tubes from Winsor & Newton, or either 20 or 15 tubes from Maimeri. The imported image will be shown with “standard Munsell colors”. Gouache painter reduces thousands of colors in a photo to a palette of between 2 and 255 “standard Munsell colors”. This number you can decide yourself. Each color can be isolated in the image and displayed in your palette with a Munsell notation and a suggested color mix. Other colors in the image will appear gray in color. The Gouache painter will also tell you how much the color from the mixed colors deviates from the color in the picture. But that is not all. Gouache painter has several tools in its toolbox. For example, instead of creating the palette automatically, you also have the option of creating it yourself. Move your cursor over the image and in a little window in the left-hand column, you will see the color with the Munsell notation. By clicking or tapping on the image, the same information will be shown at the spot where you have clicked or tapped. You may choose between an exact measurement (based on a 1 x 1 pixel area) or an average based on either a 12 x 12 pixel area or 24 x 24 pixel area. Of course, this option in Gouache painter will also suggest a color mix for every color you choose (e.g., clicked or tapped on the image). By clicking the Option button, you can also add the HSV, HSL, or HSI color systems. The images and text can be saved and thus reloaded into Gouache painter or be printed. Although Gouache painter is made for gouache painters, other artists may also find it useful.
