Descripción
The concept of the Semantic Dictionary emerged in academia and, as a significant achievement, the Wordnet Dictionary was developed at Princeton University, one of the most spectacular disruptive innovations in universal lexicography.
WORDNETPLUS is an expansion of the Wordnet dictionary, published on the LexSemantic Platform.
------------------------------------------------------------------ More details are available on the websites: www.lexsemantic.com/wordnetplus/ (about the WordnetPlus) www.lexsemantic.com (about the Platform)
Its interface has superior functionalities, especially when compared to other dictionary apps.
• Offline use;
• Translates, copies and shares entry informations;
• Querying entries from external applications (browsers, text editors, etc.)
• Multiple Lists of entries (e.g. Favorite, LearningWords etc.) created/imported and shared by users, automatically synchronized between their devices (mobile, tablet, desktop, etc.);
• Concise definitions and numerous examples.
• Unparalleled thesaurus, as it presents synonyms associated with a single concept (meaning), allowing the (almost) perfect replacement of one for the other. For example, complete and consummate entries, presented together in the definition of "without qualification," may be used interchangeably, as in "complete coward" or "consummate coward."
• Unique as a dictionary of interjections, prefixes, and suffixes, as it semantically associates them with the concepts to which they apply. For example:
• Given the entry liturgical, one can obtain the interjections: Christ, alleluia, begorra, Bismillah, etc.
• Given the entry bad, in the concept of "negative qualities," one can obtain the prefixes caco- (cacophony) and mis- (misdeed).
• Given the entry ability, in the concept of "the quality of being able," one can obtain the suffixes -ability (adj. available -> noun availability), -craft (housecraft), and -ship (musicianship).
• More than 1.900 Phrasal Verbs.
• Integrates more than 50.000 curated links to Wikipedia;
• Creation of a knowledge acquisition plan through semantic relationships and Wikipedia integration.
An example of a Semantic Relationship is the generalization or specialization of a concept, such as the relationships between a motor vehicle (car, automobile...) and an ambulance, where the ambulance is a specialization of a car, while the car is the generalization of an ambulance.
